Enzymatic Renewal Exfoliant
Papain enzyme + lactic acid powder — precision exfoliation without abrasion
Exfoliation
Enzymatic Renewal Exfoliant
A waterless, dual-action exfoliating powder combining papain (papaya-derived protease enzyme) with encapsulated lactic acid. When activated with water, the formula delivers two modes of exfoliation: enzymatic hydrolysis of corneodesmosomes for precise desquamation, and alpha-hydroxy acid dissolution of intercellular cement. The result is refined texture and radiance without the micro-tears associated with physical scrubs — safe even for post-procedure skin.
Key Benefits
- Dual enzymatic + chemical exfoliation
- Refines pore appearance and skin texture
- No physical abrasion — no micro-tears
- Brightens uneven, dull skin tone
- Activates only upon contact with water (anhydrous stability)
- Suitable for sensitive and post-procedure skin

How to Use
Dispense 1/4 teaspoon of powder into the palm of your hand. Add 2–3 drops of water and mix to form a paste. Apply to damp face using gentle circular motions for 30–60 seconds. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Begin with once per week; increase to twice per week if well-tolerated. Always follow with SPF if used in the morning.
Disclaimer: This product is a cosmetic, not a medicine. Exfoliation may cause temporary redness. Avoid if you have open wounds, active eczema or rosacea flares. Always perform a patch test. Read our full Health Disclaimer.
The Science Behind the Formula
Enzymatic Exfoliation
Proteolytic enzymes such as papain and bromelain cleave peptide bonds within the corneodesmosin proteins that anchor corneocytes together. This targeted digestion removes only the structurally compromised cells in the outermost stratum corneum, leaving the viable epidermis intact. Enzymatic exfoliation is pH-dependent and self-limiting — unlike acids, activity halts when substrate is exhausted.
Lactic Acid & AHA Mechanism
Lactic acid (pKa 3.86) loosens desmosomes by chelating calcium ions within intercellular cement, promoting natural desquamation. At concentrations below 5% and pH above 3.5, it functions as a cosmetic exfoliant with strong humectant properties. Encapsulation delays release until pH activation by water, ensuring stability in the anhydrous powder matrix and preventing premature neutralisation.
Why Avoid Physical Scrubs
Particulate physical exfoliants — walnut shell powder, sugar, apricot kernels — create irregular micro-lacerations in the stratum corneum that transiently increase TEWL, introduce bacteria, and exacerbate inflammatory conditions such as acne and rosacea. Chemical and enzymatic alternatives achieve comparable cell-turnover results with a measurably lower disruption to barrier integrity.
